Summary of Contract

A consortium of WS Atkins, Securicor and Skanska-Costain was awarded the contract to build the 800-bed category B prison to accomodate prisoners who have been confined for the safety of the general public. The prison was opened in November 1997 and became fully operational in March 1998. The prison includes a mix of remand and convicted adults and young offenders.

HM Prison Parc provides a programme of education, training, work and other activities allowing inmates to spend 12 hours a day outside his/her cell.


The consortium will operate the contract over a 25-year period, which was completed 50 percent faster than planned.
