Private Finance Initiative

MCG’s member companies are among the leading Public Finance Initiative (PFI) contractors in the UK.

PFI involves private sector collaboration with the public sector in the financing, building (or redevelopment) and maintaining of large public infrastructure projects, such as in health ( PFI in hospitals FACT SHEET uploaded 13/04/05) and education ( PFI in education FACT SHEET uploaded 25/05/05). Other PFI sectors include transport, home affairs and social housing.

PFI projects allow the government to harness the private sector’s particular strengths such as:

efficient management of financial risks
innovation in design and construction
cost-effective delivery of services; that is, value for money.

Because PFI contractors are responsible for the whole life-cycle of each project, typically 25-30 years, they have a clear interest in ensuring the highest standards at every stage, from procurement, design and construction to maintenance and long-term relations with employees and the general public.
